I deactivated my Facebook to focus on other projects, but the recent event that took place at the capitol has caused me to make a comeback, at least temporarily. I want to start by saying that nothing that happened surprised me. In fact, I found myself more amused than horrified. To be honest, watching people puzzled, dumbfounded, and exasperated was more frustrating than the event itself.
First, this is America. Any other version of our country that people have subscribed to has been wishful thinking. I will take this time to outline a few of the hypocrisies in this country that the capitol event has revealed. Apparently, police officers are capable of de-escalating conflict without resorting to kneeling on necks, choking people out, and shooting unarmed men. This notion that police need more training to manage their interactions with Black people more effectively is absurd unless the training teaches how to prevent their racial bias and personal feelings against Black people from infiltrating their job as police officers.
Over the last week, I have heard nonstop rhetoric alleging that the event at the capitol is not America. That would be nice if only it were true. Those who claim that the event does not indicate the type of people who fill this country are liars at worst and delusional at best. As I watched the event unfold on CNN, I could hear terrorists shouting, “where the f**k is Pelosi,” as they ransacked the place. They destroyed offices, broke windows, stole nameplates and statues, and, do not let me forget, scaled walls LMAO, yea, I do not understand this last one.
The sane question is, why did these people do this? They were not protesting hundreds of years of racial oppression; unarmed Black men gunned down in the streets. They were not protesting civil rights. Instead, they were protesting an election they believed was stolen from them. The evidence of this so-called claim was not anything tangible but none other than because “Trump said so.” These Trumplicans had surpassed the threshold for decency and were being their most authentic selves.
Because I know many Whites need to believe that they are morally superior to other ethnicities worldwide, it would not be long before the excuses for this domestic terrorism would surface. As imagined, the excuses were plentiful. I was not surprised that individuals tried to claim that the terrorist were members of Antifa. However, what surprised me was the claims that they were Black Lives Matter activists. CNN debunked this theory by giving the names, states of residence, and past pictures of many of these people in Trump attire.
Attempting to drag Blacks into events we had no part in and further disparaging the Black image is not new. Blacks have been lied on since our all-expense-paid voyage from West Africa. One of the most common lies about the slaves that still exist today is that Blacks are lazy. To be clear, the people who built this country on their backs through unpaid slave labor while their Master’s watched from a distance are supposedly lazy.🤔 The people who did not want to work their own fields and pick their own cotton were not lazy, nor are the people who presently demand the maintenance of their unearned privileges.
Blacks have also been referred to as violent, savage, and uncivilized. However, the individuals who slaughtered the natives after being welcomed with open arms and stole Africans from their villages are pacifists. These same pacifists had sour grapes when they lost their slaves, so they resulted in forming the biggest hate group in the Klu Klux Klan that the nation had ever seen. These pacifists would gather their children to watch Blacks hung from trees and sometimes tied to trees and burned alive.
The events at the capitol showed us that Whites are not above widespread violence, contrary to popular belief. Whites owning most of the nation’s wealth, having predominant control over the government, and every branch of military and law enforcement has positioned Whites not to have to be too violent, at least not anymore. It just so happens that 100’s years of war and violence were enough to establish a more peaceful today. When you have conquered everything, what is there left to fight for? However, the events at the capitol show us what happens when some Whites feel that their rights have been infringed upon; they are willing to take it to Washington, quite literally.
It just so turns out that violence may have more to do with circumstance, social position, and perhaps culture than race. Who would have thought? When we endure tragedy, the advice given to Blacks is to trust the system; the system works. The system apparently works until it produces an outcome many Whites do not like. For evidence, look no further than the unleashing of conspiracy theories galore, armed protest, and attacks on the nation’s capitol. And do not get me started on the unverified forum/site that informs the most extreme republicans, TrailorParler.
Only God knows what will happen next. Yet again, the police and security guards have dropped the ball, and now the FBI has to clean up the mess. While others are still puzzled and horrified by that day on January 6th when individuals filled with rage and many carrying on the legacy of the confederacy stormed the capitol, it reminded us of the ugly that this country is still capable of and how for the last four years, Trumpism has convinced many Republicans to go hoodless.
Now that Biden is in office, many will reluctantly return their robes to their closets. Before you know it, these racist Whites will reassimilate with other Whites as if nothing ever happened. Only Black people have to carry the guilt of every poor decision made by another member of our race, which will later be used to indicate our worth and trustworthiness. Fortunately, I do not subscribe to the views of my oppressor. They say 9/11 never forget, okay, fair enough. But let us add January 6th to that list of things we will never forget; let us call it the reawakening.
