Women’s liberation from the oppressive ideals seen in patriarchal societies tends to provoke hypervigilant responses towards any sexism reminiscent of those darker times. Presently, progress has been significant but has not come without consequences. The modern social unacceptability for men to comment on anything women do has forced many women to figure out how to find love on their own.
Men can no longer share their preferences without their opinions being potentially viewed as sexist and misogynistic. There has been a shift from focusing on the collective roles men and women occupy in relationships to almost exclusively analyzing what men have done wrong for the last several centuries and what men still cannot seem to get right. The result of such a one-sided focus is that there are many more women struggling to find husbands than men struggling to find wives. For the most part, when men are ready to find wives, they can do so.
Women’s goal of obtaining equality is justified. However, not all women have the same goals of using their equal rights amicably. For example, some of the most influential voices in women-led movements come from women who do not date men nor see value in men. Knowing this, some women harshly try to discard men from their lives as much as possible. However, this strategy is self-sabotaging for women who plan to start families and live united with men. In these cases, a more unifying approach is essential.
Women can stick together up until the point their goals divide. It would be ideal for a heterosexual woman to consider a unifying strategy with a man that allows both genders to establish an equitable relationship. Unfortunately, the near sole preoccupation with men’s mistakes has left most single women out of touch with what men are looking for in potential mates. Some women do not care to know what men want. These women feel it is their turn to reign, but it is not equal if one group reigns over the other.
Although it may seem like it no longer matters what men want, it does. Many single women would be surprised to know that they carry themselves precisely, pulling them further away from the decent men they seek. When a man has matured and is looking for something real and permanent, he desires a few things that many single women appear to be lacking. Two essential qualities a man looks for in a woman he wants to settle down with are substance and good sense.
Whether a woman has substance or not, it has become common for many single women to express themselves in ways that indicate this is not the case. For example, many of their social media pages do not display any goals or ambitions but contain 500 selfies and the websites where they shop. Many women advertise themselves as lacking sense by portraying stupidity as cuteness; for example, getting into unnecessary drama to show how loud they can get or starting arguments with other males solely to get attention. Men tend to turn away from women who are consistently in drama. They also tend to avoid women who have poor emotional management. Some women feel men should know how to handle or tame their lousy attitudes, but men rarely share this sentiment.
Men also notice when women cannot manage money due to bad spending habits. These behaviors suggest to men that a woman does not have good sense. Men fear women who do not have good sense will make lousy mothers because they are irresponsible and terrible thinkers. A man who always has to pick up the slack for a woman who lacks self-control and does not know how to think critically can feel overwhelmed by the stress of being in these relationships.
Lastly, men worry that women who lack substance only look for someone to take care of them and rarely want to fulfill that role. Single women should review their profiles, assess the topics they like to discuss, and examine whether they present themselves as mindful, intelligent individuals with substance, or the opposite. Many would be surprised to see they are not displaying any essential characteristics to attract the desired men.
